CPA Exam Review
What are the academic requirements to take the CPA exam?
- At least 120 semester college credits (180 quarter college credits)*
- A baccalaureate or higher degree from an institution recognized by the Accountancy Board of Ohio
- 30 semester college credits (45 quarter college credits) in accounting that cover the areas of financial accounting, cost/managerial accounting, auditing and taxation
- 24 semester college credits (36 quarter college credits) in business courses [finance, management, economics, marketing, and "business" courses designated as such by a college or university (business law, business communications, business statistics, etc.)]
*150 semester credits are required to apply for certification as an Ohio CPA.
How can Tri-C help me prepare for the CPA exam?
Tri-C offers four CPA review courses, one course for each section of the CPA exam.
- The CPA review courses are instructor-led sessions.
- All instructors are licensed CPAs with master’s degrees in accounting.
- Tri-C has partnered with Gleim publications and uses its textbook and study materials throughout each of the courses.
- Tri-C is affordable with the lowest tuition rates per credit hour in Ohio.
- The semester credit hours earned through each part of the Tri-C CPA review course (two credit hours for each section) count toward the 150 semester credits required to apply for certification as an Ohio CPA.
There are four sections of the CPA exam:
- Auditing and Attestation (AUD) covers auditing procedures, generally accepted auditing standards and other standards.
- Business Environment and Concepts (BEC) addresses the general business environment and business concepts that candidates need to know to understand the underlying business reasons for, and accounting implications of, business transactions.
- Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR) focuses on generally accepted accounting principles for business enterprises, not-for-profit organizations and governmental entities.
- Regulation (REG) covers federal taxation, ethics, professional and legal responsibilities, and business law.
Tri-C offers a two-credit hour CPA review course* for each of the four sections of the CPA exam. Each course runs 14 weeks and meets two hours per week. The courses offered are:
- ACCT 2530 CPA Review AUD
- ACCT 2540 CPA Review BEC
- ACCT 2550 CPA Review FAR
- ACCT 2560 CPA Review REG
*Each two-credit hour course can be taken alone. You are not required to take all four.
